Old Knight

"Ahh, dragon slaying. Knighthood's highest calling..."

"The Old Knights of the Archdragon Citadel were Dragonslayers, and the last knights standing when the Abyss came upon the high lands of Menez Du.
They were holding greatshields, with the coat of arms of the Crown's Crest, the House of Gwendal, and their halberds were large enough to decapitate a small drake in one blow, if the bearer wielded enough strenght.
When chosen, they were tasked to hunt down a drake by themselves and bring their head back to the castle, or die trying.
The survivors would bear the horns of the drakes on their helmets and shoulder plates, as a symbol of might.
Their resolve in duty and combat ascended them to the Royal Guard of Menez Du, and the same resolve brought their very death.

At the end of the Second Abyss War, they fought for days at the bottom of the Throne Room's stairs, only to be slowly burned alive when the heat and corruption of the Black Dragons' dark fire breath defeated them behind their shields and inside their heavy plate armours.
To this day, if you wander in the ruins of the Old Archdragon Citadel, you will find their hollow armours amongst the charred remains of their kin and ancient home, still standing or kneeling under the weight of fate.
Bless thee, Old Knights, for your sacrifice has not been in vain, and will me remembered for the eons to come, in the Kingdom of Menez Du you saved from oblivion."

Project done in 2020, started as a love letter to the Souls games !
Ideally, I would finish the retopology some day in the future, I have not given up on it (yet !).
The texturing would be fun to do, bring the old metal and the passage of time on the surfaces, the burn stains, bring that lore and story telling narrated above inside the details, but who knows, maybe some day.
